Are These The Only Options?
|
 |
 |
|
A popular Christian book proposes that everyone must choose one of three ways in which to understand Jes'us. The
book asks: Was he "Lord, Liar, or Lunatic?" Indeed, this was the name of the book itself. I ask, 'Who
says these are the only options?' Is it possible he was Misunderstood, Misrepresented, or Mistaken?

When I take a serious reading of the books that are specifically holy to Christians, which they generally call
the 'New Testament,' I am left with more than one possibility.
As I read the words from the lips of the one they consider Christ through Jewish eyes, the 'eyes' of one who holds the
Torah (the Law of Moses) to be the Almighty's ultimate authority in guidance to man, I am left with a very different
picture of this key figure of Christianity than what most Christians perceive. Some of the statements which he is recorded
to have said, most readers would simply read right over, not noticing their significance. These same passages, when
read by one who has even a little substantial knowledge of the historical faith of Israel, are full of meaning and implications.
Other statements of his that I've read seem to be going completely against the Law of Moses, in which case he would be
a false prophet - see Deuteronomy 13. However, these same troublesome passages, which most Christians think were
intended to teach that the Law of Moses is no longer applicable, when read by someone who has knowledge of certain details
of the Law of Moses, do not necessarily imply that this man from Galilee intended to teach that the Law of Moses is no longer applicable at all. Passages
like these can be understood in more than one way, even vastly different ways, depending on from what perspective the
reader is reading. I intend to give specific examples in the future. [To be continued...]

Some books that further elaborate on examples of how this man from Nazareth may have been greatly misunderstood by later
Christians can be found on the following sites:
SCHUELLERHOUSE <[WARNING: The books on this site do NOT represent mainstream Judaism. I
refer one to these books only that one may see further examples of how this individual, whom most of the world admires,
may be greatly misunderstood. All of these books are speculative. I do not advise one to base his life on mere
speculation, regardless of how much more likely one theory is than another. The reality is that there is no way we can
know with rational confidence exactly which teachings this man actually taught, and which teachings were superimposed onto
his character. We are obligated to make our lives inline
with the Almighty’s Torah anyway. We are never instructed in His Torah
that we are to base our lives on a man, not even the Messiah – were he to have already come. The truth
is that there has been an almost 2,000 year break between Je'sus' original followers and we who are alive today. After
his original followers died, as admitted in early Catholic writings, massive corruption occurred among the early Christians.
As a result, there is no continued tradition of his original teachings going back in a direct line to His original followers.]
