As stated on Mechon-Mamre.org's 'About' page, "Mishneh Torah was the first, and is still the only, full codification of all of the divine laws of the special covenant between the LORD YHWH and Israel as well as the general Noachide covenant between the LORD YHWH and the Gentiles (no, we do not mean the so-called "New Testament"), with all of the rabbinic legislation developed in accordance with those laws:  for all people, for all places, and for all times (until the reestablishment of the Sanhedrin in Israel--may we be blessed to reestablish it, in our time!)."  Additionally, its compiler - the Rambam (Maimonides) - is known to have had access to the most accurate Biblical and Talmudic texts available during his lifetime, something which can not be matched in modern times.  Together with this he had great familiarity with science, astronomy, medicine, Jewish communities world wide, as well as his Rabbi and father having inherited a tradition of learning and teaching linked directly back to the Gaonim.  All of these, together with his having feared the Almighty clearly more than he feared the most influential Rabbis of his day, are among many reasons why I have chosen to align myself with those who encourage emplimenting practical Jewish law (Halakha) according to the Mishneh Torah.

If one wants to keep Torah law in the most consistent way possible, there is no other way than according to the Mishneh Torah.  If he goes according to any other codifications he will be trying to keep halakha according to several different Rabbi's methods of interpretation, the different methods of which are sometimes contrary to one another.  Keep in mind that a halakhic ruling in one issue sometimes totally changes the outcome of a ruling in another halakhic topic.  This would doubtless be the case since all other codifications of Torah law are partial.  For example, if he wants to go according to the Shulhhan Arukh he will not be able to do so when it comes to the various laws which the Shulhhan Arukh simply doesn't cover - such as the laws of the Shmita year (every 7th year).  It just so happens to be that when it comes to learning the laws of Shmita, everyone ends up turning to the Mishneh Torah.  It is a miswa (commandment) to line up our actions with the Almighty's actions expressed in the world - Just as His ways are consistent and and without contradiction, so also we must strive for the most consistent.

In his realization of the independence of Jewish Law and the Will of HaShem - (TRUTH) - over the practices of even the most religious of men, Rambam is famous even among non-Jewish philosophers for having stated:

"Truth does not become more true by virtue of whether the whole world agrees with it, nor does it become any less true if the whole world were to disagree with it."

Such logic is central to awareness of and devotion to the Absolute ONE, L-RD of the Universe, and in upholding His Gracious Instruction, the Torah.

A few basic reasons why I prefer to go according to Mishneh Torah in psaq halakha:

Emphasis, centrality, and importance of the Absolute Unity of the Creator throughout the text

Centrality and importance of loving, revering, and serving Him throughout the text

Emphasis on importance of upholding logic and consistency in our thoughts and actions

That the codifier of the Mishneh Torah, the "Rambam," was well educated in a broad field of studies, from science and astronomy to philosphy and mysticism, to the beliefs and practices of various religions of his time.  Such knowledge is essential for the highest degree of comprehension and application of Jewish law.

The Mishneh Torah, until this day, is the only self-contained complete system of codified Jewish [Talmudic] Law; It is my opinion that until the Redemption it will remain so, for the following additional reason that I prefer to go according to the Mishneh Torah:

That Rambam, codifier of Talmudic law and teaching into the Mishneh Torah, was conciously concerned about the accuracy of the source texts he used and that in his possesion were Talmudic and Biblical texts which he considered to be of superior quality / accuracy in comparison to the versions of those same texts generally used in his lifetime -- (how much more so in comparison to those used in our lifetime?):

That he possessed what he considered superior Tanakh text of Rav Asher see Mishneh Torah, Hilkoth Sefer Torah 8:4, p. 159 note #10 in Moznaim translation;

That he considered himself to have access to Talmudic texts which were superior to that of certain Geonim, see Hilkoth Ishut 11:17 [13], p. 140 note #27 in Moznaim translation;

That he used more accurate versions than his teachers, see Hilkoth Gerushin 9:29 [32].

That he had used Talmudic texts which he believed to have been copied around 200 years after the originals, see Hilkoth Malveh v'Loveh 15:4 [2];
