Abortion has the status of murder according to the Instruction divinely given to the people of Israel at Mount Sinai under the leadership of Mosha [Moses] both as it relates to Israelites and as it relates to the nations in the Noahide Lawseven from the first generation of mankind abortion is catagorized as murder under the 6 laws given to Adam.  The only exception is in extreme cases where there is certainty that the mother will die if the unborn baby is not aborted.  This is so regarding Israelites.  It is debated whether the same is applicable in the Noahide Laws.  (In my humble opinion I think the same applies; though I'm aware of someone many years more learned than myself who disagrees.)  Even in a case where abortion may be necessary if the mother is to live, it is still a very sad and tragic loss - most definately not the thing from which some bloodthirsty "doctors" should make their career.

"And if men struggle with eachother, and strike a pregnant woman, and her child departs [or: exits], and yet no harm follow, he shall be surely fined, according as the woman's husband shall lay upon him; and he shall pay as the judges determine; and if there is harm consequently, then you shall give life for life." (Exodus 21:22-23)

The following is the codification of the Sanhedrin's clarification of the prohibition against murder in the Noahide Laws as put forth by RAMBAM in the Mishneh Torah, Hilkhoth Melakhim u'Milhamotheihem 9:4

A ben Noah who murders any human-being, even one unborn in the womb of its mother, such a person is liable for the death penalty because he is guilty of murder.  Likewise, if someone killed another person who would have soon died anyway, put someone infront of a lion, or starved someone to death, such a person is  liable for the death penalty, because in one way or another, this person mudered.

Example of Non-religious Opposition to Abortion:

"Libertarians For Life notes that the principles of both the United States Libertarian Party and Objectivist ethics require some obligation to children and counter with an appeal to the non-aggression principle:

Non-aggression is an ongoing obligation: it is never optional for anyone, even pregnant women. If the non-aggression obligation did not apply, then earning money versus stealing it and consensual sex versus rape would be morally indifferent behaviors. The obligation not to aggress is pre-political and pre-legal. It does not arise out of contract, agreement, or the law; rather, such devices presuppose this obligation. The obligation would exist even in a state of nature. This is because the obligation comes with our human nature, and we acquire this nature at conception.[3] "

From 'Libertarians for Life' article:

"The current U.S. national party platform reads:
"Recognizing that abortion is a very sensitive issue and that people, including libertarians, can hold good-faith views on both sides, we believe the government should be kept out of the question. We condemn state-funded and state-mandated abortions. It is particularly harsh to force someone who believes that abortion is murder to pay for another's abortion."

Although many people view this as a neutral position on the issue, the Libertarians For Life argue that it uses the power of the state through courts and police to protect those committing abortion and therefore cannot be a neutral position. The only 'neutral' position, they argue, would involve an unlikely and unattractive scenario of "free-fire zones" where government would neither stop abortions for occurring, nor protect abortionists from harm. As this is obviously not a situation even most libertarians would endorse, the result is to accept that any position taken by the government on the issue of abortion necessarily takes sides."
